What We’ve Achieved

The Disability Law Center of Virginia awarded us the Disability Impact Award in 2021, recognizing and celebrating On Our Own of Roanoke Valley’s quick action to remain available despite the pandemic shut down of March 2020. We operated continuously, seven days a week, with personal daily phone connections with each individual member as well as running daily peer support groups by converting to the Zoom format.

Award Video

In 2022, The Disability Law Center of Virginia created the Innovative Services Award for On Our Own of Roanoke Valley’s unique peer recovery services available on a walk-in, same-day service format.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to promote recovery by providing a safe, peer-run alternative for the purpose of socialization, self-help, advocacy, recreation, support, and education. We are open weekdays, Saturdays and Sundays as well as holidays, when traditional providers of mental health recovery services are closed. We employ trained Peer Recovery Specials, peers in long-term recovery, as staff, connecting by their lived experience with recovery. Our staff provide a safe haven for people, making their own lives more productive and meaningful, while enriching the lives of others.
